Mexican leading grocery and general merchandise retailer Chedraui plans to open 140 new sales locations in Mexico in 2025, the company reported.  The majority of the new Mexico stores will be in the small-scale, neighborhood Supercito format, and plans include an additional four new stores under the El Super and Fiesta Mart brands.  Read the original story in Retailers Magazine (in Spanish) here.

Mexican discount retailer Waldo's Mart plans to establish 100 new sales locations in Mexico in 2025, the company reported.  Waldo's additionally plans to add 40 new stores to its chain of electric motorcycle and bicycle stores, Waldo's Motos.  Read more on the company's expansion plans here.

Mexican department store operator Liverpool will form a partnership with two members of the Nordstrom family to acquire U.S. department store chain Nordstrom and take the company private, the participants announced.  The acquisition, valued at US$6.5 billion, will leave majority ownership of the chain in the hands of the Nordstrom family members.  Read more here.

U.S.-owned grocery and general merchandise retailer Walmart de Mexico opened 155 new sales locations in Mexico in 2024 as part of a US$1.7 billion investment program for the year, the company reported.  The expansion brings the chain's total number of Mexico stores to 3,162.  Read more via Mexico Business News here.
